Hilary and Jackie

Jackie, a famous cellist, outshines her sister Hillary, a flautist. Hillary's love for Jackie is put to the test when she has a nervous breakdown owing to the mounting pressures of international fame.

The 1998 biographical film Hilary and Jackie tells the true story of two sisters, Hilary and Jacqueline "Jackie" du Pré, both talented musicians. Jacqueline (played by Emily Watson), an exceptional cellist, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1971, at age 26. The film focuses on her relationship with Hilary, a flautist, from the pinnacle of Jackie’s career to her physical decline from multiple sclerosis — as she lost feeling in her hands, retired from music, and eventually became paralyzed — to her death in 1987.
